About

The sport of golf has challenged and charmed people for generations.  The game is believed to have originated in Scotland as early as the 15th century, and was imported to the U.S. in 1888.  For many years, the sport was the exclusive province of wealthy, Anglo-Saxon males, but in recent years, the passion for playing golf has sparked what some would call a spiritual revival among the “baby boom” generation.

Further, the exclusionary attitudes which have surrounded the sport for years (preventing women, minorities, and the working class from enjoying the sport) have subsided.  Consequently, the challenges and intrinsic beauties of the sport have been exposed to a large number of willing and active participants, fueling the most phenomenal boom in the history of modern sports.

There are approximately five million minority golfers in the U.S. today, up from approximately 500,000 just 15 years ago.  Many attribute this factor to the higher education level, greater affluence, and the greater number of minority “baby boomers” reaching the age of 49-64.
Men and women from the Caribbean, South America, Africa and Asia have come to this sport by the millions as a result of accessibility, Tiger Woods and the unique international appeal of the game.

Minority Golf Magazine online is devoted exclusively to the interest of persons of color in the United States and around the world…no other publication or web site has endeavored to fill this vital role.

We welcome your comments and suggestions and any items of interest to people of color you may be aware of.

  1. Hi,

I would like to introduce myself and have a discussion on how we should
work together to advance the kids in Title 1 neighborhoods into golf not only in the classroom ( Boys and Girls Clubs) but on grass and experience the feel that golf delivers.

    Thanks,

    1. Hello Bob,
Thank you for the introduction. I’m sure the subject of kids will come during the Inclusion & Diversity Round Table on Wednesday at the PGA Show, hosted by Michael Cooper(mcooper2@springfieldcollege.edu>). It’s understandably a little hectic getting ready for the show at the moment, I’ll be in touch with you closer to the first of February. Ed

  2. Hello — happy to hear your magazine will be at the Mack Champ Invitational — hopefully you can add Junior Golfers to Watch as one your continuing columns.

    1. Thank you for your comment. Yes, Junior Golfers will be a significant part of our immediate editorial plans. Ed.
